Batgirl is the name of several fictional characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics, frequently depicted as female opposite numbers to the superhero Batman. Originally created by Bob Kane and Sheldon Moldoff, the first incarnation of the personality, the’Bat-Girl’ Betty Kane, debuted in Batman 139 ( 1961 ) as the sidekick to Batwoman.

The official retirement of Batgirl occurred in Batgirl Special one ( June 1988 ), which was broadcast a few months after Barbara Gordon’s shooting by The Joker in the graphic novel Batman : The killing Joke ( March 1988 ).

Betty Kane’s Bat-Girl was primarily curious about vigilantism to develop a relationship with the first Robin, Dick Grayson, as her introduction into publication was a deliberate try to avoid further allegations of homosexuality that Seduction of the trusting presented to the general public. Outlined as the niece of Batwoman, Bat-Girl had developed a pash on Robin after arriving in Gotham town and made a decision to fashion her own superhero persona based on Robin’s costume. Within the same year, a new character introduced during the no person’s Land series, Cassandra Cain, created by Kelley Puckett and Damion Scott, becomes the 4th Batgirl, and she’s coached by Batman and Oracle.

It’s been explained that Cassandra Cain had a problem of religion after the presumed death of Bruce Wayne and asked her best chum, Stephanie, to resume the Batgirl legacy.
